Renelle Piñero; Executive Director

Renelle Piñero has positioned herself to become an emerging leader of non-profit management and communications in the local area. Her journey with GWOF began in 2010 as a Media Communications Coordinator. Today, Renelle is taking on the responsibilities of Executive Director for GWOF and continues to manage all strategic communications including public relations, social media and event marketing. In addition, she serves on the Advisory Board for The Zawadisha Fund.

Prior to being involved with non-profit organizations, Renelle was employed in the hotel operations department at Harrah’s Lake Tahoe. During her time with the company she was able to gain valuable leadership experience. She successfully streamlined several customer service initiatives and developed a hotel logistics control center, which provided strategic support to front office shift managers, group sales coordinators and other hotel staff members.

For as long as she can remember, Renelle was always looking for ways to have a positive impact on the world. She started small by arranging food and clothing drives at her local coffee shops and community college but frequently found herself wanting do more. So after working in Lake Tahoe’s hospitality industry for three years, she decided to focus her energy on pursuing a career in journalism and social entrepreneurship. She chose journalism as a vehicle to make a difference because she believes that it is the stories of others that inspire us to take action.

At present, Renelle is a journalism student at the University of Nevada, Reno and is a member of the school’s National Student Advertising Competition Team. She also holds an Associate’s Degree in Social Sciences, with a Career Certificate in Applied Anthropology from Lake Tahoe Community College where she completed vast research on poverty, social inequalities and advocacy. Furthermore, she has gained public relations and marketing communications experience through various internships in the tourism and retail industries.

Renelle’s personal hobbies and interests include writing poetry, Filipino Martial Arts, playing guitar and collecting magazines that feature historical events. She also enjoys visiting her family in the Philippines whenever possible.
