Some culinary advice directly from the east coast of Lake Como. Bellano, located on the Lecco branch of Lake Como, is famous for the canyon dell’Orrido and for the amazing view onto the two branches of the Lake and the mountains that take you to Valtellina and Valchiavenna, but I think it should be famous for another reason too..

Not far away from the old weigh house, very important place for the village community, is a little trattoria hidden away in a small tight street that gives me pleasure every time I go here.

I’m talking about the Trattoria del Ponte, a reasonable typical restaurant with simple furnishings, and friendly people to welcome you that offers the best value and most authentic experience for travellers visiting Lake Como. It doesn’t have a lake view or elegant interiors either but it offers lake fish and a genuine local cuisine belonging to the lake fishing tradition.

I suggest to call the restaurant to book a couple of days before paying visit in order to check out the menu of the day; Risotto with perch fillet is not to be missed along with the traditional agoni that can be eaten as missoltini, that are salted and then sun-dried or in many traditional versions. Another delicious dish belonging to the Lombardy tradition is the stewed trench, a simple recipe using fresh and genuine ingredients.

Lake Como has ancient culinary traditions that are unique among the Lombardy recipes and the Trattoria del Ponte in via Cavour in Bellano is certainly highly recommended.
