Sagra di San Giovanni – Isola Comacina
The Sagra di San Giovanni has taken place on Comacina Island Island Comacina for almost 6 centuries and commemorates the destruction of the island on June 24, 1169. Nowadays it is one of the most awaited events in the Lake Como summer.
This year the festival will take place on 27th and 28th June. On Saturday evening the lake will be illuminated with thousands of lovely “Lumaghitt” lights (snail shells with burning olive oil) and with candles placed in the boats and on the windows and balconies of Ossuccio’s districts.
The day after a procession of boats called “Lucie”, typical Lake Como boats, decorated and conducted by boatmen in folk clothes, reports on the Island the relics of the martyrs of the Parish of the island. After the mass at the Basilica of St. Euphemia, in which everyone can participate reaching the island by ferry, a traditional lunch will take place at the Inn of the Island.

In occasion of this festival the Navigazione Lago di Como has orgaised evening cruises departing from Como and the centre lake to see the fireworks from the lake. There will be two cruises departing from Como at 8.15 pm with the chance to have dinner and music entertainment paying an extra to the price of the ticket that costs 33 Euro.
Cruises from Bellagio depart at 8.35 pm, arriving in Varenna at 8.50 pm, following Menaggio at 8.55 pm and Tremezzo at 9.15 pm. The price of the ticket is 25 Euro.
Tickets can be bought at the ticket offices in Como, for Cruise departing from Como) and in Bellagio, Menaggio, Varenna and Tremezzo for departures from the centre lake.
