On Sunday July 3, Como’s annual Water Music Festival began its seventh season with a concert program thats runs until 23 July.

This year once more, Lake Como will play host to the chamber music performances of both Italian and international musicians in one of the most well-regarded classical music events of its genre in Italy. The 2011 concert programme is dedicated to the anniversaries of composers Liszt and Mahler.

After the opening concert held at Piona Abbey in Colico, the Festival will move to different locations around the shores of lake Como: on July 4, at 6pm in the Cattaneo bookshop in Lecco, the presentation of the book Like an Orchestra will take place.

On Saturday, July 9, the festival returns to Piona Abbey in Colico for a 9:30pm concert by the Atelier ensemble who will perform Il Piccolo Principe – the Little Prince.

On July 10 at 9pm, in the atmospheric surroundings of the San Calogero Cloister in Civate, the Liszt Anniversary Concert will be held and a piano recital given by Enrico Pace. In the afternoon before the concert, it will be possible to book a guided tour of the St. Pietro al Monte and S. Calogero sites.

For Friday July 15th, the festival will move to the attractive surroundings of Villa Monastero in the lakeside village of Varenna, where at 9pm the Trio d’Archi string trio will perform music by Bach.

On Saturday, July 16, the festival is back in Colico, where at 9pm another anniversary concert will be held.

On July 22 at 9pm, jazz and South American music can be heard at the Festival Friends Concert at Lavello Monastery in Calolziocorte.

For its closing concert of the 2011 season, Lake Como’s Water Music Festival moves back to where it all started – Colico’s Piona Abbey.
